Tourism- the fragile Industry
Caribbean Tourism has been surviving extremely
well during the past five years. After the 9/11
catastrophe in the US, which affected every
corner of the globe, the Caribbean through
Governments intervention with huge subsidization
sums of millions of dollars, survived quite
well.
Apparently, due to the peaceful and stable
social environment in the region, the market
quickly adjusted, especially with cruise
passengers, which until today is still the main
vehicle for great numbers of visitors. Global
air travel today remains very active in the
region, and although fares are exorbitant, as
compared to domestic travel in most major
countries, people are still visiting the
Islands, in search of peace, relaxation and more
so tranquility.
What's in store because of the economic
slow-down in the United States and global trends
are yet unknown, but the Governments and the
relevant Tourism Agencies are preparing
themselves for recession fall-out, which it is
believed would effect travel immensely.
